Saturday, 8/30/08 - Practice

ERG was temporarily postponed until next week. This is kind of a relief but I am just putting off what I dread momentarily so part of me wants to get it over with. Practice itself was relatively easy. I had to sit on the "noobie"-er boat today and its hard to feel like I got a really good workout in. First last was four 3 minute sets and second lap was 8 windsprints with some Simon Says to finish the lap.

After practice we had to go pick up our race packets for the run tomorrow. Luckily, the lines were short when we got there and they managed to have the shirt sizes we needed. Lunch was at The Loft, a Hawaiian chain that was quite good and relatively cheap. Rest of the day was taken easy... decided to do practice and the run tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

Thursday, 8/28/08 - Light workout

Unfortunately, I didn't have any time to squeeze a workout in yesterday. Don't feel like I've been getting enough sleep but its almost the weekend. Looks like I might ERG this weekend in addition to the Nike run just to get it over with.

Managed to force myself to go to the gym... got a light, informal workout in. Did a couple of sets of biceps at home before and managed to catch the last 2 innings of the Angel's game while using an elliptical at the gym. Got 40 mins in on that but still never feels like a good cardio workout, nothing compared to running but it said I burned a solikd 400ish calories. Who knows how accurate that is. They also got the electrical scale back at 24 but I'm questioning even more how accurate it is. Weighed myself in at 158, which I would guess is about 3-4 pounds heavy... could be the Greenfield Brazilian BBQ I had for lunch though.

Finished up the workout with a couple more dumbell and hammer curls, 2 sets of pull ups and various tricep exercises. Gonna take the day off tomorrow and relax.

Tuesday, 8/26/08 - Practice 10k

So despite running a few times a week, today was the first day I managed to run a straight 10k without stopping. I was plenty hydrated throughout the day and didn't eat for at least a few hours before the run, which definitely helped. It seems that my goal of running 9 minute miles for the 10k is a little unrealistic and I coasted along just below 9:50 miles today for the duration. It's amazing how toning down the pace makes it seem like I can go forever. It went pretty smoothly and should be able to up the pace a little bit come Sunday night. Let's just hope the chafing subsides...

Here is the route. Super messy and didn't really have a destination, just running aimlessly on relatively flat streets.

Monday, 8/25/08 - Quick workout

Didn't have much time to work out today. Had to make it to the Angel game who lost. Focus this week is on Nike Run so just needed to sustain in the gym.

Chest
Bench: 6x135, 8x135, 4x135
Seated decline: 8x140, 8x160, 8x160
Seated pec fly: 8x120, 8x130, 8x140
Push ups: 1x20, 1x15

Workout was done in 30 minutes with minimal resting because of the time constraint. Probably going to try and get a 6 mile run in tomorrow...

Garmin Forerunner 405

I bought this watch a couple weeks back before I had the blog. Starting to run more now hopefully but have racked up some miles. Details are here.

Along with this, I usually lift 4 days a week. Been down to 3 now with legs being left out while I train for the Nike Human race. Practice Saturday and Sunday, usually take Friday off. Maybe this log will help me stay dedicated...

Sunday, 8/24/08 - Practice

Good workout today at practice. First lap was four 3 minute sets and a short sprint set to finish it off. I GPS'd the first lap with my Garmin here. We started a little late. Lap 2 began around 10:50 and consisted of 8 windsprints with 10 seconds rest in between, give or take a few. Nike run next Sunday, ERG soon, SF in a little over a month... Might try to run 6 miles later on at a jogging pace.

Long run didn't happen.. managed to squeeze in a short run tonight after doing some jump rope. Cramped up a little, usually dehydrated because of being in sun all day at practice. Details are here.

Saturday, 8/23/08 - Practice

First lap consisted of a couple 2 minute pieces for video session and two starts. Second lap was constant paddling, 1 minute on with 1 minute of active resting. Got around the island in about 20 minutes. Meat pies for lunch, mmm...
